Why Juice Will Probably Kill You and What To Do About It

Many of us try to eat healthy, "eat your fruits & veggies" as Mom always said. With this in mind it's common to lean towards the brightly colored juices in the supermarket that claim to have an array of healthy fruits and veggies blended into this superfood drink. Fact is, these drinks are far from a healthy choice...

THE PROBLEM:

While I don't argue the healthiness of fruits & veggies; the problem is juices, blend juices, and fruit flavored drinks are processed fruits, full of sugar, and can lead to obesity (especially in children). Even 100% juice options contain 30+ grams of insulin spiking sugar (that turns into fat) per serving! If you're thinking this sugar is "natural" and healthy, just think about the evolution of juice. Do you really think our caveman ancestors squeeze dozens of fresh oranges into a container to them drink them?

I personally view the term "natural"as what's in nature. I've said it before and I will said it again nowhere in nature do oreo's grow on trees. The same can be said for juices. Juices are not natural they are processed fruits in a liquid form. This process of concentration takes the fiber out of these fruits and reduces them to pure sugar. The only difference between a bottle of juice and a bottle of sugar is the few extra vitamins in the juice. Weather its 100% juice, a super juice hyper mix, or somethings flavored with fruit its probably not good for you.

THE SOLUTION:

Having been a personal trainer for well over 100 different indivdauls I learned that certain people just get "bored" with water. While most people don't drink enough water as it is, I do have a solution to this boredom problem: Stevia sweetened soda and kombucha. I freaking love stevia sweetened soda (My favorite brand is Zevia), not only does it have the bubbly deliousness of normal soda but it's zero calories! Secondly kombucha is another amazing alternative to juice. While almost all brands of kombucha contain a small amount of sugar, kmobucha all contains b-vitamins, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and some super healthy acids.

In conclusion toss out the juice and get yourself some Zevia and kombucha!
