Plan Ahead When Eating Out

For anyone that has ever tried to “clean up” their eating habits this one is obvious but, unfortunately too many people neglect it. If you want to eat healthy, YOU MUST PLAN AHEAD, period. If you will be going out to a restaurant try to look up the menu (most all restaurants post menus online) in advance and find a healthy option. Better yet, find restaurants that fit your goals. For example when my wife wants pizza, I spend a few minutes online looking for a place that has gluten free crust and mostly organic ingredients, which surprisingly isn’t too hard to find anymore.

Premake Meals

In my professional opinion, those that continually “eat on the fly” and don’t make their own meals often fall short of their goals. Learn to make your own lunch, and take pride in it. Controlling the entire process of nutrition gives you ultimate power of what you put into your body.

Just Don’t Eat

I’m in situations all the time (when I forget to plan ahead) where there is simply no option to get quality earth grown nutrients,. When I’m in these situations I simply fast (don’t eat) until I can get my hands on something healthy. Sure I’m hungry, but I would rather fast which will actually boost my metabolism than eat some food like substance that will only provide a short hunger relief.

Keep Restaurants Simple

There are entire books written on how to “navigate restaurants”. I’ve been eating what I would consider to be very healthy for over 7 years now and rarely (if ever) have had a problem “navigating” what to eat. I attribute this to two things: 1. I use eating out as a reward meal 2. I order what I normally eat. By reward I mean, if I know I will be going out for a meal I try to earn it by ensuring my other meals and my workout for the day is on point. Then when it’s time to go out I feel completely guilt free. Secondly I just eat what I normally eat, it’s really that simple. I can get a steak, sweet potato, and broccoli at almost every American restaurant I go to, nothing out of the ordinary with that.

In closing there are no excuses to binge out on unhealthy food because the odds are against you. You can always plan ahead, not eat all together, or make restaurants work for you.
